Cuticle Care Tips for a Salon-Like Finish

Cuticles can make or break a manicure. I’ve heard mixed opinions about trimming vs. just pushing them back. What’s your routine for keeping cuticles in check? Any favorite oils or creams?

Push back, don’t trim—experts say cutting can cause damage. Use oil-based removers and jojoba oil for hydration.

While pushing back cuticles is key, I’ve found that softening them first makes a big difference. A warm soak with a drop of mild soap or even a few minutes with a warm, damp towel can make them more pliable and easier to manage. For oils, I lean toward argan oil—it’s lightweight yet deeply hydrating, and it absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue. As for trimming, I only snip hangnails or excess skin, never the actual cuticle, to avoid irritation. A gentle buffer can also smooth any rough edges for a polished look.
