I’ve been honing my straight razor with a 4000 grit stone and it’s been working well, but I’m curious about others’ experiences. What’s your go-to grit progression and any tips for getting that perfect edge?
A 4000 grit stone is solid for edge refinement, but for a polished finish, consider adding an 8000 grit stone followed by a 10,000 grit finisher. Stropping post-honing with a leather strop can further enhance sharpness and longevity. Consistent technique and patience are key.
YO, toolsofmen!!! 4000 grit is a SOLID START, but don’t sleep on the lapping films for that MIRROR-LIKE FINISH!!! I’ve been using balsa strops with diamond paste (0.5 micron) after my 10k stone, and HOLY MOLY, it’s like shaving with a laser beam!!! ALSO, don’t forget to CLEAN AND DRY that blade religiously—rust is the ENEMY!!! Keep it sharp, keep it classy!!!
