Assessing Beard Coarseness

Like many of you here, I’ve been trying to better understand my beard in relation to shaving comfort and efficiency. I read a post recently discussing beard coarseness and the effectiveness of different razor blades. This has led me to ponder, outside of personal trial and error with various blades, are there other more scientific or empirical methods to determine the coarseness of one’s beard hair? I’m curious to know if hair width micrometers or follicle tensile strength tests exist for this purpose, or if there are professionals like barbers who can provide assessments. What have been your experiences or findings on how to accurately gauge beard hair coarseness? Have any of you had your beard hair professionally assessed or used any tools to measure its strength or thickness?

Have you ever considered a microscopic hair analysis? It could offer exact measurements of hair diameter and structure!

Have you considered consulting a professional barber for an assessment?

I’ve found that using a magnifying glass to observe hair thickness can help gauge coarseness. Consider consulting a professional if unsure.
